Regardless of age, everyone needs mentors—professional, spiritual, etc. Even mentors need mentors. There is always someone out there who has successfully made it through situations or has mastered activities in which we are currently involved. And for these very reasons, mentors are not always older individuals. By definition, mentors are wise and trusted counselors or teachers. The world is forever changing, and there is always a lesson to be learned. So, until the world ceases to be populated with people of different personalities who are involved in different activities, mentors will always be needed.
We at BI Libraries understand that not everyone has attended college and that the need for mentors does not stop at the age of 18. Mentoring is most crucial in early adulthood as it pertains to influencing the outcome of one’s professional career. In addition to working with young adults, we mentor parents as it relates to the career paths of their teen-aged children. Preparing a family to send a child to college is a very intricate and laborious undertaking. Because we have experienced the process with our parents, we understand and empathize. Our goal is to simplify the process as much as possible for the families that follow.
